Where are they now....? Jen, Max & Jake - Life's a Beach
Jen, Max and Jake are all rescue dogs from Hyndburn Stray Dogs & Labrador Rescue Jake (Now 15) was the first to be rescued 8 years ago because he was abandoned and nobody wanted him because he was a "faulty" Labrador. His tail had a patch of fur missing and it wouldn't grow back. Max (Now nearly 3) was rescued 2 years ago by Hyndburn Stray Dogs, found wandering the streets with no home to go to and no one to love him. Jen (2 and a bit) as described in the story below was rescued just 2 years ago, and found wandering the streets as a puppy at Christmas, who could be so cruel?. Well all these and many more animals rescued by Hyndburn Stray Dogs do have happy endings. Here are 3 of them....
In Sept 2007, Jen, Max & Jake got their pet passports, had all their injections and decided to emigrate to The Canary Islands for a long and fun filled life in the sun, no more rainy days and freezing cold nights for them.
After a 4 hour flight in absolute luxury kennel crates, they arrived at Tenerife airport looking excited as they could be seen through the plane porthole waiting on a platform outside the plane just sitting there ears up and wagging their tails waiting to see us all.
In no time we were through customs and on our way to their new home with a great big terrace to play on and just a 2 minute walk to the beach.
Months on and settled nicely in to their new home, Steve Wood the chairman of HSDIN & Hyndburns dog warden and his wife came out for a holiday and paid us a visit. They were so pleased to see them and how well they looked.
It was a bad start to life for them but what a wonderful life they have now and many happy memories to come. Jen
It was New Years Day 2006 that I first saw Jen’s picture on HSDIN website. She looked so sad and frightened. During the next couple of weeks I kept checking to see whether she had been rehomed. Every time I saw that she wasn’t I kept nagging my partner Andy about us getting her. He kept saying “No”, ( we already have an old cantankerous Labrador)until I managed to wear him down.
Jen was being cared for in a foster home, and she was very quiet when we went to see her. After we had been there a while, Jen climbed on Andy’s knee and licked his chin. It was like she was thinking “Its you I have to convince to take me home” She needn’t have bothered. Jen had already worked her magic, Andy wanted to take her home.
She came to live with us on January 16th. Jen is now a different dog. She is now 14 months old, and is a typical sneaky collie. She loves playing ball, stealing chews from Jake (our Labrador)racing round the garden at 100 miles per hour and sticking her nose into everything! She is definitely a “Daddies Girl”. I hardly get a look in. After tea she has her place next to him on the settee, she curls up next to him. She is happy, confident and mischievious.
Jen loves Wednesdays. That’s the day she goes to Obedience Class. In April she received her Puppy Foundation Award. In June she passed her Bronze Good Citizen Dog Award, and is now working towards her silver. Like a typical female she has her moments of not wanting to do something, and makes it known. She loves to socialise with all the other dogs at Obedience class, and has to be dragged away at the end of the lesson.
Due to Jen we have such an interest in dogs. We have seen how much she has come on in the short time she has been with us. She is very intelligent, though some days you doubt that when she is in one of her daft moods. She does however pick things up very quickly.
At this moment Jen is fast asleep on the settee behind me, probably plotting mischief. She is as daft as a brush, so fits in well with our family. Every body loves her. And her magic carries on. Last week we had a new addition to the family. To know more you will have to read Max’s story.
Buddy (From "Bobby's" new mum Karen)
We first noticed "Buddy", a male cairn terrier, when we happened across the Hyndburn Stray Dogs In Need website while looking for a new dog, and when I saw how sad and lonely he looked I immediately said we had to go and see him.
The next day we turned up as soon as HSDIN opened and we were taken to see him. He immediately jumped up at us and we knew we had to take him home.
He is adorable and is now called "Bobby" as we thought he suited it more. He is so loving and we cannot imagine life without him now. He was three when we got him and turns six in November 2009.
Bobby still really dislikes cats and birds but we have just moved into a new house with a big garden and he loves it and spends hours on end exploring, relaxing on the patio and playing with his mountain of toys.
He loves his walks in the Yorkshire Dales on a weekend too and is - I admit - rather spoilt. Thank you so much for helping us find such a lovely dog.
Izzy (From "Lizzie's" new mum Sarah)
Hello all
This is Pete,Sarah and Emily.........Izzy's new family. Izzy was previously called Lizzie.
As promised I am just letting you know how things are going with young Izzy.
We collected Her on the 26th July and took Her straight home, where She was greeted by our 2 cats,Reba and Kim!
We were not sure which of them was more surprised and were ready to 'intervene' in a flash, however we need not have worried.Reba, the youngest, immediately started fussing around Her and purring.........Izzy was rather unsure what to do at first, but decided that a quick sniff and a lick would do the job! Kim,on the other hand was not so forthcoming and was rather put out when Izzy tried the same thing with Her! Now , however, they get on fine.
Izzy allows both of them to share Her bed and all 3 of them enjoy mutuall grooming sessions..........quite sweet to watch!
Emily, our 2yr old absolutely adores Her,and Izzy could not be more gentle with Her if She tried........personally I think Izzy believes that Emily 'deliberatley' drops Her biscuits etc just so She can 'hoover' up after Her!
She appears to have really settled in with us,and now looks even prettier since Her trip to the groomers. She is a little unsure of 'older' men at first but soon comes round when She realises they are not going to hurt Her!
All in all we think we have made the right decision and would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone at the Centre for allowing us to rehome such a lovley natured Dog.
Finally, I hope you like the pictures!
Lucky
Thank you for such a lovely companion, she is a lovely happy and obedient female dog. I don't like calling her a bitch even if it is supposed to be the correct term, ha,Ha.
Lucky travelled happily in the car and got into it with no trouble at all, no sickness or wandering about, a real treat.
We got out at my home and I thought well after dropping goods off for her in the house, she had a lovely drink of water, and then we went out to the shop.
She was marvellous, she sat there really quietly no trouble at all.
I wasn't in the shop long as it is too hot for us both to be out much. Before going into the shop we had a walk around the block till some young boys went away from the shop entrance. Didn't want her upset at all. They looked alright but wanted to be sure for Lucky's sake too. I praised her and gave her a fuss so did the lady in the shop as well.
We arrived home, it is only about 3 doors away is the shop.
And I gave Lucky a chew and of course her new toy, the one she had taken to that I had given her at the kennels. She has been tossing it about and running around happily with it and she is also very good when I told her down after excitedly jumping up on the settee.
It was okay I had put a blanket on the chair and settee anyway to be sure. So after showing her the new bed that I had got her she happily sat on it enjoying the fuss and happily chewing the new chew a little while I tidied up in the kitchen.
I showed her the bedroom, I don't know if she is used to being on the bed but after telling her to get down she was good and got down again, I had put the new circular fluffy bed in the corner under the dressing table, she will be out of the way of my feet etc. during the night or when I go in the wardrobe and drawers she can sleep peacefully,
Then she got in and I made her a fuss and said she was a very good girl, and she has got the message I think okay without having to be too firm or anything. Yes, thank you so much again for letting me bring her home.
If someone should claim her in the near future, especially if children are involved, I will give her back to you to hand over.
Otherwise I am sure we are in for a lovely future together.
Lucky is fast asleep now, so I may have a bit of a rest myself too.
I will keep you informed of her progress and will see about going to the vets in the morning. It is too hot now to take her out in the car, even with two roof lights open and the windows down and the shades up. It wouldn't be fair to her. she will also have more confidence in me as well as settling in by the morning.
I will see about getting the nametag tomorrow too. The ones at the vets take about 10 days to arrive, which is a long time.
But I am sure like RAGS, Scamp and Whiskey my previous dogs etc.
she will know which side her bread is buttered. Ha, ha.
Sorry I have gone on a long time, thanks for listening, from Kathleen and Lucky.
Poppy’s Story (From Poppy’s New Mum, Amy Grogan)
Poppy was advertised on the website as Sally, but I think Poppy suits her better!
Thank you for finding the perfect dog for us. She is lovely and is nearly fully grown now. When we first saw her at HSDIN she was the one and we fell in love with her at once. We had to wait nearly a week to find out if she was ours and every night I prayed she would be. Finally the news came SHE WAS OURS!!! =] and we had to come for her the next morning. When we brought her home she had a bath first then a big bowl of feed and then for the rest of the day she didnt stop playing!! At night time I slept with her in our kitchen and then decided that she was tired enough to sleep through the night. She now enjoys playing, walking in the parks and up at the stables and she is an all round nutter!! We have just started dog training and she is becoming a fine little lady.
Thank you ever so much for finding her!!
x

Misty (From Misty’s new Mum Gillian)
She is absolutely wonderful. Considering what she has had to endure, she is so well behaved, house trained, great with my son and other people. She sleeps all night and is sooooooooooo cute.
I think she will be very spoilt little girl !!!
Keep up the good work with HSDIN
